Looking for a little help. Please read.

Ladies and gentlemen,

It has been a while sense I graced your pages. I have been dealing with life and being unemployed but my issues are not why I am here. When I last reached out it was for a quick update. This time it is a little different. I am not really reaching out for me. You see my Father in Law, the man who’s treated me more of a father than anyone was recently diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). I am not looking for handouts, donations or any value other than information. The one thing he told me recently was that he wished that he could get another 63 Chevy Impala SS like he had when he was young man. Now we both cannot afford one so I thought if I found one maybe I could get that person to give him a ride in it or rent the vehicle for the day. It is after all the least I can do for him. Especially seeing that he is ballsy enough to do an ALS Walk in his condition. Below is that information but more importantly please EMAIL ME if you know anyone with a 63 Chevy Impala SS in the Chicago area that may be for hire.

Rocking for Rick!

“I inhale hope with every breath I take.”
That quote has never been more true, since my recent diagnosis of ALS. As true as it might be, all of you who know me know I am a fighter, and I will not give up easily. Thus, the reason I have signed up for the "Walk to Defeat ALS." It might be too late for me to beat this horrible disease, but I will not go without fighting and doing everything I can to help others in the future.

I just turned 70 about a month ago, and hearing that I had ALS felt like someone punched me in the gut. It has progressed fast, and my overall motor functions are deteriorating rapidly. Although I am still able to walk, I rely on a cane or walker. I have lost all muscle tone and motor function in my left arm and hand. My speech and ability to swallow have also been affected, but the state of my lungs and breathing has caused great concern.

I am determined to complete the 2-mile course and "Walk to Defeat ALS.” Regardless of how I complete most of the course, I WILL WALK ACROSS THE FINISH LINE, and I really hope I can count on many of you to be by my side. Not only to support me and my family, but others in the future who are suffering. Although this disease is my issue, and I really need support, my family needs your support, too.

Please join us and help the ALS Association continue to fight for those suffering, while doing research to find a cure.

Wow, Lane. I am sorry for your troubles. Having a chronic illness myself, I can certainly relate. I am not in a position to help, but you can definitely have my prayers for you and your lovely family.

Hey Lane, sorry to hear about your father-in-law's diagnosis with ALS. So where are you located? I just so happen to be a old car and truck guru since I was 15 years old and I've built and owned more old cars and trucks than I can count. It's been a passion of mine since I was a kid. I do know a lot of people here in Texas and Loisianna that build and own classics a friend of mine builds 67 - 69 Camaros and I do know a man that owns a 63 Impala SS that would gladly fulfill you're request but distance will be an issue. You're going to have to locate a car club president in your area and present him or her with your request in order to fulfill your father-in-law's dream ride.

Let me just say this. All classic car and truck owners are very passionate people including myself. I feel confident that if you can locate an owner of a restored '63 Impala SS, that they will very likely accommodate this request. What you should do is google search car clubs in your area and contact them to help you locate that specific car and it's owner. Car/truck enthusiasts are a huge network of friends across the country so this will not be difficult at all. I can pretty much guarantee you will find an Impala owner who would be more than willing to spend a day with your father-in-law. I bet they would probably let him drive if he's still able to.
