In need of some help with Zach's computer (Widow Jr).

Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) K 655
64 Kilobyte Primary memory cache
3.20 gigahertz Intel Core i5
Multi core (4)

The issues is windows 7 updates. He had a few viruses (Minecraft crap) and I was able to get those removed. Then found that windows winsock2 file corrupt and was not able to communicate with Microsoft, was able to re-write it and talking to Microsoft again. The symptoms were, BITS service, update service, and peer name resolution would not start. After correcting the winsock2 file, update service, and peer name are now running, however, the BITS will not start (error code 2147024894). Things I have tried without any success:

Scannow (No issues found)
Windows 7 update maintenance troubleshooting (Worthless)
Microsoft fixit of every kind (Again, Worthless)

Does anyone have any ideas for this?

When i run into such deep issues I sometimes find it easier to just do a fresh boot of win 7 since it takes me personally not long with an .iso cd on hand. as for BITS https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/d ... empting-to maybe this will help maybe it wont. good luck to you.

if that does not work i read somewhere to do this: Windows could not start the Background Intelligent Transfer service on the local computer. For more information review the system event log. If this is a non-Microsoft service contact the service vendor and refer to service-specific error code -2147024894. (0x80070002)
If you receive this error message, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\BackupRestore\FilesNotToBackup
3. If the registry subkey exists, go to step 4. If the registry subkey does not exist, create the registry subkey. To do this, follow these steps:
Right-click Backup Restore, point to New, and then click Key.
Type FilesNotToBackup, and then press ENTER.
4. Quit Registry Editor.
5.Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
6.Double-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service.
7.In the General tab, click Start.

restore to an earlier date when it did work. this helps most of the time and save doing a complete install.

Thanks Auzzy, step two did the fix! Now to download 100 updates and then to windows 10. Just tell me where to send the bottle of Scotch!
