Parasites are a powerful bunch using both chemical and biological weapons at their disposal. They come in a variety of species and all it takes for 1 to mutate/evolve to a major problem. e.g. FIV Feline immunodeficiency virus, jumped from a unique strain of another "IV" which is probably where HIV jumped from.
all it takes is nature and time or an eejit scientist.
