The Ice Queens : {ESC}Buzz, FullProof, {ESC}DirtyBean Won the Tournament!
All right, here it comes ! This should be for us the big event of the end of the year, and after last year's tryout which was quite a success, we decided to renew the experience and make this an annual event. As always, all comments and suggestions are more than welcome to make this as good an event as possible.
This will be a 3v3 Freeze Tag Tournament, starting on Saturday, November 3rd and lasting 4 weeks, matches being played mostly on Saturdays, some on Sundays. This post will contain everything there is to know about the tournament, from the rules to the results, you can refer to it whenever you need to know something about the tourney..

The mod and rules used for the tournament are the same than on our main Freeze Tag Server.
No offensive names, language or behaviour towards admins or other players (in any language).
No bunnyhopping or dolphindiving.
No glitching / going outside of the map.
All weapons and perks available allowed.
Spawncamping is allowed.
Wallspamming is tolerated.
Teams
Each team will consist in 3 players, one of whom will be Team Captain. 3 players can directly register their team if they have one ready. Players interested who do not have a team as of now can still register and a team will be arranged or assigned, on the basis of each player’s schedule. The Team Captain will be the intermediary between the Organization and his team : he will be communicated the matches schedule to forward to his teammates, and he will be asked to report the scores of each encounter on the forums.
Schedule
The first matches will be played on Saturday, November 3rd, and we plan on hosting the last matches on the last weekend of November. So the tournament should last 4 weeks, maybe 3. Matches will mostly be played on Saturdays, with occasionally a few matches planned on Sundays if it makes it easier for some teams.
One of the main features of our tournament is that there is no fixed time for the matches. The Organization will be collecting every player’s schedule, and arrange every match according to these schedules. That means that the time for one team’s matches may vary from one week to another, but always within the time indications given by all members. This system allows players from different timezones to register to the tournament and have the possibility to play against each other.
Maps
The maps to be played are predetermined, chosen by the referees and organized in Sets. Each team is going to play each set once. The maps included in each set will not be made public before the match, so as to keep it fair between the teams who have time to over-practice on a map and those who don’t. A few minutes will be given at the beginning of each map to allow teams to walk around the map and implement their strategy.
Each match is composed of 3 maps. A map is played until one team reaches 3 rounds won. All 3 maps are to be played even if a team is declared winner of the match after the first two maps.
A team is allowed to call in one substitute in each match, should they be one player down. Any spare player must be announced the day before the match. If a team didn’t manage to find a substitute they will have to play 2v3.
If something happens at the last minute and a team finds itself lacking a player at the moment of the match, it is still allowed to seek a substitute. However, under these circumstances both the opponent team and the referee are allowed to refuse a substitute, notably if his presence could make a significant difference in the result of the match.
For the second and third stages of the tournament, all the players that were in a team but are not in the tournament anymore (i.e players from a team that didn't make it to the second stage) can be called to play as subs, all the rules above still applying.
Forfeit
If only one or no player at all is online in time to represent their team, they will need to forfeit for this match. A loss will be counted and a 3-point win awarded to the opponent team. Rescheduling the match is an option -if the opponent team agrees-, but nothing can be ensured.
If a team considers forfeiting because one or several of their players will not be able to play anymore, please refer to me before taking a decision, we may find solutions to keep you on track, such as exceptionally increasing the number of allowed substitutes.
Spectators
During the first and second stage of the tournament, no spectator can be allowed to watch the matches, so as to prevent unfair help from spectators to players. However, the 3 matches of the finals can be watched by up to 20 spectators. All spectators must be on our TeamSpeak during the matches of that last stage, as well as the teams playing the finals - each in a different channel of course.
One match CANNOT last more than 1 hour and a half.
If it happens, the match will be stopped and be considered a draw between the two teams, each going away with 1 point.
If the match starts in late, or there has to be a break for some reason between two maps etc... that "extra" time will not be considered as part of the 1.5 hour allowed.
The rounds will still be counted, in case we need to decide between 2 teams with the rounds difference.
The tournament is divided into 3 stages.
- The first stage sees all the 17 teams divided into 3 groups, 2 groups of 6 teams and 1 group of 5 teams. All the teams within each group play a match against each other and a ranking is established at the end of these matches (see scoring). This stage lasts 2 weekends (Nov. 3-4 and 10-11), and each team plays either 4 or 5 matches. Once the ranking is done for all the groups, the first 3 ranking teams of each group make it to the next stage.
i.e : Group A has 5 teams : A1-A2-A3-A4-A5, whose final ranking is the same as written here. A1, A2, A3 will make it to the second stage, and as for A4 and A5, they can still volunteer to be subs for the matches of the second and third stages.
- The second stage divides the 9 remaining teams within 3 groups (groups D, E, F) following this pattern :
Group D : A1 VS B2 VS C3
Group E : A2 VS B3 VS C1
Group F : A3 VS B1 VS C2
All teams within each group play their matches against each other, a ranking is established following the same scoring system, and the first ranking team of each group makes it to the next -and final- stage.
- The third stage sees the 3 remaining teams play against each other, with a huuuuge crowd watching and cheering! Whoever makes the best out of their two final matches wins the tournament!
If several teams are tied on the number of points, these elements will be used to make a difference between them, in this order :
Points > Nb of matches won > Rounds won/Rounds lost difference > Nb of rounds won > Result of the match between the teams concerned.
Each match being composed of 3 maps, if a team wins 2 maps out of 3 it is considered winner of the encounter.
Winning a match gives 3 points.
Scoring a draw gives 1 point.
Losing a match gives 0 point.
Winning a match 3-0 (3 maps to 0) gives 4 points (3 + 1 bonus pt)
Winning a match by 7 or more rounds up, i.e if the losing team scored 2 rounds or less gives 5 points (3 + 2 bonus pts)
Losing a match with 5 rounds or more scored gives 1 point.
Ex: A team winning its match 3-0 ; 3-1 ; 3-1 will score 5 points.
A team winning its match 3-2 ; 3-2; 3-2 will score 4 points. The losing team will also score 1 point.
A team winning its match 3-1 ; 3-0 ; 1-3 will score 3 points.

Thanksgiving is on the 22nd of November this year, so the weekend of the 24-25 will be busy for most people, is that right?

Well, I guess there could be a little bit of rush with low numbers encounters like that, but then it depends on what your team's objective is. Some teams will want to win the tournament, others will not care about that and just try and enjoy it. Overall it is just a big load of fun and you don't even have to remember you are playing in a tournament. If you and your teammates want to take it easy and not put yourselves in stress conditions, well good on you!
