I am looking to upgrade my mother board. Been looking at new egg, but, not sure on how good mother boards are. Here is one I was looking at:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813188026

And if you scroll down, I was going to select the: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor

and the:

# OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model

PLEASE, if this is good, let me know. I am looking to make the not only a sexy looking rig, but, a beast in gaming as well. Thanks all.

I wouldn't buy a older quad core....check out the newer 45nm duo E8400. It will smoke a 6600 when running a game and run cooler. Just get a MB that can fully support it. Look at the ASUS P5's.

Cheap and fast as hell !!!!

My 2 cents, LOL !!!

What lager said. I have the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz in my box. Bought it when it first came out (18 months ago). Any modern dual core will piss all over it now.

Never had any cooling problems with it at all, and I also have the Nantec 900 ultimate gaming case.

Well. like I said, I dont know much about the true tech specs of some things. Here is what I have been looking at, tell me if I should go for it or back down:

1)

2)

I dont know.. I dont know of any other sites to really get parts from either cheaper. I have a budget (damn military pay) so yeah. Trying to keep it as good as possible without breaking the wallet too bad

Looks like a decent rig to me. Cant comment on the mobo as Ive never used a VGA one. As for that Q6600 personally I think they are ok. Mine doesnt seem to run hot (either that or my fan control is screwed LoL as I rarely here the fans kick up except when I boot UT3). So far every game Ive installed since I got this system has set itself to "High" by default... as in Texture quality, shadows etc etc.

Just for the record heres whats in my box...

ASUS P5N-E SLi
Q6600 2.4ghz
GForce 9800 GT (1gb version)
4gb Corsair Ram (no clue what speeds now.. I put it together in November LoL)

and erm other than a sata drive that pretty much covers the important stuff.
Like I say, with that build UT3,CoD4,CoD5 all installed and sneered at max settings.... doesnt even break a sweat.
