I tried every compatibility mode, in fact I have tried everything on the internet at the moment, and some stuff I thought of myself. as far as I know no one with win8 can play cod4 on a pb enabled server.

Hi zeno i am all so running win8 i had the same issue but now it's working fine. this is what i done to fix the issue but only tell the good guys :
go into your pumkbuster folder and remove 2 files which are pbsv.dat and pbclold.dll delete them from hiden folders as well.once done connect to cod4 server and pb will replace files with new ones which will work with win8.hope this help's.see you soon in game.

I deleted the whole folder, in fact a removed punkbuster from my system completely, and reinstalled using http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php and http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe , I did it again after reading your post and we'll see what happens.

I have been unsuccessful at getting cod4 to stay running, i'm hoping punkbuster will fix it on their end.

but I also noticed that performance in any game was really sucking, and finally narrowed it down to the fact that hyper-v does not work well with gaming.
even with your virtual machines off it still gives a huge (Microsoft says minor) hit to performance. actually removing hyper-v altogether is what it takes to get performance back.
Microsoft could have the world by the balls, but they cant get their head out of their ass.

I have a newer pbcl.dll on my system in my America's army folder. I'm going to try replacing the one in my cod4 game with it.
i'm just afraid it will set off a pb ban. get ready to back me up if it does. I think it more likely that it just wont work at all.

Found some more stuff that could work... i don't know why it should take evenbalance so long to make a patch?
I am still waiting for a solution untill i install windos * pro.. i have it right here.. but if COD doesn't work.. omg..

I'm using the newest Windows 8,consumer preview and not one problem. Used PB updater from here.

games version. Extract and run as admin. BF3,BFBC2,BF2,MOH,COD,Dirt3,Homefront and others run great.
My pc RAPES Windows 8! Loves it! Runs fast!

Uninstall PB from control panel. Reboot your PC.
Then download PB services installer from http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe,
or go to your Origin folder and find where is installed Battlfield folder, then goto __Installer\punkbuster\redist,
rightclick on pbsvc.exe file, select in context menu 'Propeties'
and goto tab 'Compatibility' and check 'Run this program in compatibility mode for: windows xp sp3 or windows 7'.
Click 'apply' or 'ok'. And now just run file pbsvc.exe and install it.
Reboot PC after install.
It's all.

I use windows 8 consumer preview build 8250.

P.S.: If not work with pbsvc.exe file from origin folder,
download and use file from http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe. [evenbalance.com]

installed it myself.. a risk i know..

after updating PB and compatibility win 7 for cod 4 i could play as long as i wanted.. one IWMP3 error so far

I quitted because the redirect was 13kb/s ...
